Julian Construction Say Winter Rains Can Increase Drainage Problems

LOS ANGELES - Southern California construction and foundation repair expert Juan De La Torre, founder of Julian Construction (www.julianconstruction.com), says homeowners should be on the alert for increased drainage problems from this year’s winter rains.rain image When rainwater isn’t able to drain properly, it can cause damage to a home’s walls, basement and foundation.

Poor drainage can lead to water collecting on roofs, as well as pooling and soggy lawns,” says Julian. “If these conditions aren’t corrected, they can result in costly home repairs and other unanticipated expenses.”

Rainwater will accumulate on rooftops and overflow down walls when gutters and downspouts are clogged. The water produces moisture in the house, which can cause mildew and mold. It can also seep into the ground and penetrate cracks in the foundation.

Gutters and downspouts need regular maintenance and cleaning to remove leaves, twigs and other debris,” say Julian. “In addition keeping downspouts cleared, they should be mounted and angled to release water several feet away from the house.”

Water pooling and soggy lawns can occur with certain types of soil that retain moisture, or when water on a high elevation drains to property at a lower level. Severe basement and foundation issues can occur from water pooling near a structure. Julian recommends installing drains to help direct the water to another location.

Excessive moisture can also make any clay-based soil swell. Expanding soil can lift up and crack a foundation. When it dries, it will contract, which triggering even more structural troubles.

Drainage problems need to be fixed quickly to prevent water from making its way into the house and weakening the foundation.” says Julian.

Julian De La Torre has been doing earthquake retrofitting since the early 1990s and has personally worked on over 6,600 homes in Southern California. With this unmatched experience in the substructure areas of a home, Julian formed Julian Construction in 2001 with the goal of making safer homes, apartments and commercial properties throughout Southern California. His partner Shawn Kyles has inspected over 15,000 structures, working with both engineering firms and local departments of building and safety, and is an expert in foundation repair and house bolting. Julian Construction owns its own company and is built on a “no middlemen” model – no salesmen, no subcontractors. When you work with Julian Construction you get the principals of the company and workers of Julian Construction under your home.  The result is the highest quality work at affordable prices. California Contemporary Ballet Presents 13th Annual Production Of “The Snow Queen”

Los Angeles Ballet Features Fantasy-Filled Choreography With Newly Enhanced Magical, Musical ScoreSnow Queen Ballet image - Wolves

Los Angeles, CA: For three days at the Glendale Community College Performing Arts Theater, December 17-19, 2010, hundreds of ballet and holiday entertainment seekers are transported to Hans Christian Andersen’s fantasy world where good prevails, personified by a little girl named Gerda who saves her friend Kai from an evil spell. Evil is set right when the spell is ultimately reversed by the Snow Queen.

This year’s The Snow Queen (http://www.snowqueenballet.com) marks the 13th annual presentation of this great wintertime fairy tale, presented by the professional, non-profit company, California Contemporary Ballet (http://www.ctyballet.org). Brought to life by the creative vision of the company's artistic director and choreographer, Erin Holt, The Snow Queen ballet is presented complete with brilliant lighting and set design, custom handmade costumes, and an original, moving musical score by Randall Michael Tobin. The professional principal cast is accompanied by the California Contemporary Youth Ballet. The youth company will appear in supporting roles as forest creatures performing aerial feats, a choreographed raging river, living trees, gypsies, and a garden of flowers.

For Ms. Holt, the 2010 production of The Snow Queen is an evolutionary milestone, marked by changes within the company over the last thirteen years. Beginning primarily as a youth organization, today the company is one of Southern California’s burgeoning professional dance companies featuring the talent of career dancers and Holt’s unique brand of classical ballet and contemporary dance. Says Holt, “We are constantly working to enhance the show and create a new experience for our audience each year. This contributes to our longevity.”

The company has literally grown up,” Holt says as she observes Kelsey Glidewell of La Canada perform a series of steps and turns. Ms. Glidewell began her tenure with The Snow Queen ballet as a member of the companies youth division. This year, Ms. Glidewell has advanced, by working within the professional division of the company, and will be debuting in the shows starring role as Gerda. A senior at La Canada high school, Ms. Glidewell is currently auditioning and has already been accepted to several University dance programs. For Glidewell, who always dreamed of dancing the role, this season potentially marks her farewell to the show. “I have grown up with the show. I am always challenged by the choreography”. This year is her most challenging. “Gerda is on stage through the entire ballet and I am dancing with a new partner.” Her partner, Rob Westin of North Hollywood will perform the role of Kai.

The Snow Queen Ballet will be performed Friday through Sunday, December 17-19, 2010, at the Glendale Community College Performing Arts Theater, 1500 N. Verdugo Rd., Glendale CA. 91208. Show times are 7:30 p.m. on December 17 and 18 and matinee performances at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 18 and Sunday, December 19. Advance tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students and $30 for adults and $25 for students at the door. For tickets or information, call Brown Paper Tickets at 800-938-3006 or visit online www.ccballet.net or www.snowqueenballet.com.

This exuberant musical about a group of young Americans searching for peace and love in a turbulent time has struck a resonant chord with audiences young and old. “HAIR” features an extraordinary cast and dozens of unforgettable songs, including “Aquarius,” “Let the Sun Shine In,” “Good Morning Starshine,” and “Easy to Be Hard.”

Tickets Available from Al Brooks Tickets for Touring Production of “Next to Normal” at the Ahmanson Theatre

Tony-Winning Production Comes to the Ahmanson November 23 through January 2Production Image

LOS ANGELES – “Next to Normal,” Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey’s Tony-winning musical about a family's struggle with a mother's mental illness, is at the Ahmanson Theatre from November 23 through January 2, launching a 36-week tour in the U.S. and Canada. Tickets are still available from Al Brooks Tickets (www.albrooks.com) for the “Next to Normal” tour.

The musical -- which Times theater critic Charles McNulty described as “dramatically ambitious and sublimely staged” -- won three 2009 Tony Awards, including best score, best orchestrations and best actress in a musical for Alice Ripley as the mother. It received 11 nominations overall, and was also winner of the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for drama.

Reporting from New York — In a rehearsal room several floors above 42nd Street, actress Alice Ripley had just finished crying her way through a particularly heartbreaking scene in the show. Still sobbing, she started thinking about what she was doing, and, she says, "I can't believe I said yes, I would do this again. What was I thinking?"

Getting ready to portray bipolar suburbanite Diana Goodman on tour as she had on Broadway, Ripley knew what she was in for. "Playing Diana feels like I'm walking out into traffic," she says. "You know that the bus is going to hit you, but you just have to step out in front of it anyway."

So after leaving the Broadway production in July, the 46-year-old performer is preparing to again play Diana, the role that she has played since its first readings and off-Broadway performances.

"Next to Normal's" first song lyric may be, "They're the perfect loving family," but within moments, any semblance of normality is gone. Homemaker Diana, furiously making sandwiches that soon cover not just the table but the floor as well, is the fulcrum on which a yearning husband, a troubled daughter and a demanding son balance precariously.

In Los Angeles, as in New York, Ripley will be onstage in nearly every scene, sometimes lusty, sometimes comatose, plus singing a good percentage of the show's nearly 40 songs. Like the musical itself, she's alternately funny and spirited, angry and sad as she rollicks through a rock score punctuated with lyrical ballads and gentle melodies.

Al Brooks Tickets will have ‘Next to Normal’ tickets for our clients and we will have a great selection of theater events tickets throughout the run.” stated Jeff Brooks, President of Al Brooks Tickets. “It’s going to be a great, dramatic show which Los Angeles audiences are not going to want to miss. We can get theater tickets, and it all comes down to our sources – and they are the best in the business.”

Al Brooks Tickets is located in the Wilshire Grand Hotel at 900 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 104, Los Angeles, CA 90017 and provides tickets for venues throughout the US and internationally. They can be reached by phone at 800-341-2766 or 213-626-5863, by email at customer_service@albrooks.com or by fax at 213-626-4808. Julian Construction Offers 50% Off Winter Special on Foundation Replacement Services

Foundation Repair Process Strengthens and Stabilizes Foundations

LOS ANGELES – Julian Construction, a Los Angeles based construction company that specializes in foundation repair and construction, announced a 50% off Winter Special on foundation replacement services.

Julian De La Torre, founder of Julian Construction, stated “We’re offering this 50% off Winter Special to make it easier for people who need to replace their foundation. There are many good reasons a home or other building would need foundation replacement. In some cases, the original concrete was made of poor quality materials or has been badly deteriorated over the years. In most cases you can live in your home while Julian Construction, Inc. installs your new foundation, and we also offer 0% interest, if you need to finance your replacement.”

Right now Julian Construction is offering the Winter Foundation Replacement Internet-Only Special of 50% Off, for a limited time. This includes all permits, engineering, and fixing any stucco and siding. And Free Floor Leveling is included. Julian can complete the work in two weeks.

Julian Construction is a Southern California leader in earthquake retrofitting and foundation repair. Founder and retrofit expert Julian, along with his partner Shawn Kyles, an expert in foundation repair and house bolting, have retrofitted more than 6,600 homes, apartments and commercial properties since the early 1990s.

The company, which is dedicated to building preservation and security, offers a wide variety of services designed to address individual structural needs.
