Developmental Editor Gives Unusual Piece Of Advice to Authors

Developmental Editor Susan Mary Malone Counsels Writers On Completing Manuscripts

DALLAS, TX: Developmental Editor Susan Mary Malone, (http://www.maloneeditorial.com/), a book editor of over 40 client books published to traditional publishers, recently offered some rather unusual advice to book authors who have just recently completed a manuscript. Ms Malone has over 20 years experience in book writing, and so has written many articles addressed to those new to the literary field.

Ms Malone stated: “...once you’ve finally finished that novel or book-length non-fiction, and hopefully have sent it off to that developmental editor, taking a break from writing follows next. Working with a true editor takes time. And the very best thing you can do at this point is to forget entirely about that work, and inhale long and deep. And not a drive-around-the-lake kinda breath, or a quick trip to Starbucks. Nope, now’s the time for an extended one; a place for your mind to cool a bit from the frenzy and let the chaotic miasma unravel and come back to rest.”

She amplified the above with further data on the editing process that follows a completed manuscript. The full text of the article can be seen on her blog: http://www.maloneeditorial.com/blog/a-writers-break/

Ms Malone also stated: “Many of my authors have made this mistake, that’s why I wrote this article. It can be hard to let go and take the time needed to breathe! If you’re working with a fully professional editor, it will all come out all right in the end.”

Susan Mary Malone has worked as a freelance editor since 1993, with a BS in Political Science and minors in English and Journalism. Her client list includes NY Times Bestsellers, Essence Bestsellers and books featured in Publishers Weekly. She is also an award-winning author of fiction and non-fiction herself. She participates as a speaker in literary conferences such as the Harriett Austin Writer's Conference (at the University of Georgia), the Blue Ridge Writer's Conference, the SouthWest Writer's Conference, the East Texas Writer’s Guild, and the upcoming Lexicon Writer’s Conference. California Contemporary Ballet Announces Premiere of New Spring Time Production “Thumbelina”

Local Ballet Company Presents New Original Performance in Glendale, Featuring Local Professional and Amateur Talent

La CaƱada, CA — Aerin Holt of California Contemporary Ballet (www.CalBallet.com), the originator of the popular ballet “The Snow Queen,” has created a production she has long dreamed of: a full-length ballet adapted from Hans Christian Andersen’s story “Thumbelina.” Jaclyn Stryker, a professional dancer and resident of La Crescenta, stars in the title role.
Featuring original choreography by Aerin Holt and an original musical score by composer and orchestrator Dwight Bernard Mikkelsen, the performance will be premiering in Glendale on June 29th and 30th. “Thumbelina” ballet, like “The Snow Queen,” is a classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, the author of such immortal fables as “The Steadfast Tin Soldier” and “The Ugly Duckling.”
Having produced the popular seasonal piece “The Snow Queen” for fifteen consecutive years, Ms. Holt felt it was time to create a new ballet for her company. “Thumbelina is a story that I've thought about for a long time,” she says. “I had a certain ideal for the music, and I envisioned a set with oversized flowers and toadstools that would create a world in which my dancers could appear tiny—the size of your thumb.”
Jaclyn Stryker warms up in a corner of the studio, quietly wincing at the pain from a sore muscle in her hip. But, continues to extend her right foot high above her head and stretching it around into an arabesque. Ms. Stryker, a resident of La Crescenta, has recently returned to her roots in Los Angeles’ foothill communities from San Francisco, where she performed with several professional dance companies.
The star of the piece, Ms. Stryker, who received her core dance training from California Dance Arts and who has danced already in many original roles under Aerin Holt's artistic direction, has often heard Ms. Holt speak about creating a ballet adapted from Andersen’s story of Thumbelina. “It's been Aerin's dream to create this ballet for as long as I can remember,” says Ms. Stryker. “She made it sound fantastic and I wanted to be a part of it.”
When Ms. Holt first spoke of the idea to friend and prolific classical composer Dwight Bernard Mikkelsen of Lakeview Terrace, Mikkelsen loved the idea, and immediately began composing music in earnest. “I was very impressed with his musical interpretations,” says Holt.
Ms. Holt is largely responsible for the ballet's choreography, but she was delighted to collaborate with Lynn Bryson Pittenger on certain sections of the ballet, very much including the delivery of the final scene: Thumbelina's arrival at the Vale of the Fairies. This is the scene in which Holt plans to create the essence of a fairy world. Thanks to donations and volunteer contributions of work and materials, the sets will indeed include ten foot tall flowers, some five foot toadstools, and the famous tulip from which Thumbelina is born—which will actually open its petals to release her onto the stage.
“The story of Thumbelina is certainly a child's fairy tale,” maintains Holt. “However, through quality music, choreography and dancing, it can be told with depth and emotion so adults can appreciate it as well.” With a melding of contemporary dance, classical ballet and aerial arts, this performance is an excellent choice for the entire family.
“Thumbelina” by California Contemporary Ballet Los Angeles premieres at Glendale Community College (1500 N. Verdugo Road, Glendale, CA) on June 29th at 7:30 PM, and on June 30th at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $20–$30 at www.CalBallet.com. Group tickets are also available.

Farming Company Gets Tax Exemption on Purchase of Pilatus Aircraft

Aero & Marine Tax Professionals Helps Farming Company Save Hundreds of Thousands on Taxes on Aircraft

SACRAMENTO, CA: Aero & Marine Tax Professionals (http://www.aeromarinetaxpros.com/), an aircraft and marine tax specialist company in northern California, recently helped a farming company in northern California receive a tax exemption on the purchase of a Pilatus aircraft.
An executive from the company stated: “We thank Aero & Marine Tax Professionals for getting us approved for the airplane sales and use tax exemption. It took a lot of work on their part and our personnel to complete this process. lf you keep good records, it proves that together you can make this happen. The exemption saved our company hundreds of thousands of dollars. We fly to most of the western states for business and we farm in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Nevada. There are very few airports in the areas where we go that you can commercially fly into. By using the Pilatus, it saves us hundreds of hours in travel. I would recommend the Aero & Marine Tax Professionals without hesitation.”
Tom Alston, founder and owner of Aero & Marine Tax Professionals, stated: “We care about our clients enough to see that every part of the process goes smoothly, every record is properly kept and the case comes out right, with the client getting a tax exemption approved by the California Board of Equalization.”
Aero & Marine Tax Professionals shows purchasers how to avoid aircraft sales tax and vessel tax in California and to make certain the full value of their next aircraft purchase, vehicle or vessel purchase goes into their pocket--not the government's. They have successfully filed hundreds of tax returns with the California State Board of Equalization. Mr. Alston has also published many articles on sales and use tax.

Classic Automobile Restorer Receives Tax Exemption On Aircraft

Aero & Marine Tax Professionals Help Northern CA Company Get Exemption on Piper Meridian Plane

SACREMNTO, CA: Aero & Marine Tax Professionals, Inc., (http://www.aeromarinetaxpros.com/) an aircraft and marine tax specialist company in northern California, recently helped a classic automobile restorer receive a tax exemption from the California Board of Equalization on the purchase of a Piper Meridian plane.
An executive from the company stated: “We have a business up in Idaho where we restore classic automobiles, and also have some multi-family real estate projects out of state. The aircraft is used for both businesses. I fly to Idaho for the restoration business, and I also fly to several states to look for multi-family properties. I got the information on Aero & Marine Tax Professionals from a friend. My initial contact with them was simple and straightforward. They gave us a good rundown of what their program consisted of, it was clear and concise, and I found the rest of their organization was the same. They told me what needed to be done and their follow-through was very good. I would absolutely recommend them to others!”
Tom Alston, founder and CEO of Aero & Marine Tax Professionals, stated: “There are many different scenarios of aircraft ownership in terms of where it is purchased and where it is used. Even if an owner takes possession of an aircraft in another state and hangars it in another state, there are instances where California may come after you for tax on the aircraft. They are being very aggressive in finding additional aircraft owners on which to assess sales and use tax. That's why companies should come to us before they purchase an aircraft. We know all the ways of legally avoiding sales tax on an aircraft purchase in California."
Aero & Marine Tax Professionals shows purchasers how to avoid aircraft sales tax and vessel sales tax in California and to make certain the full value of their next aircraft, vehicle or vessel goes into their pocket--not the government's. They have successfully filed hundreds of tax returns with the California State Board of Equalization. Mr. Alston has also published many articles on sales and use tax. Re-Roofing Your Home

by Shawn Kyles of Julian Construction
The main purpose of a roof is protection – preventing rain, wind and other environmental elements from damaging the building’s structure. A roof will eventually wear out and need to be replaced. Other reasons for re-roofing include improving the appearance of a home and increasing its value.
There are many different types of materials that can be used for roofing, including wood shake, asphalt, tile and metal.
Wood shake roofs are usually manufactured from pine, redwood, cypress or cedar. They are thicker on one end than the other, and frequently come with a surface split that creates a textured appearance.
Asphalt roof shingles come in many different styles and colors, and can be used on both commercial and residential buildings. There are several different styles of asphalt shingles, including tiles that look like slate or old-fashioned roofing shingles.
Tile roofs are known for their appearance and durability. They require very little maintenance and will generally last longer that other types of roofing material. The two main types of tile roofs are clay and concrete. Both come in colors and special finishes.
Metal roofs will also last for many years. They are typically used for commercial projects, but can be installed on residential properties as well. Metal roofs are one of the best choices for protecting a home against the wind.
Reroofing a house may be necessary if there are missing, loose, warped, cracked or buckled shingles and tiles. Large gaps between shingles and tiles can also require reroofing, as well as a sagging roof or shingles that have been worn down by the weather. When shingles or tiles are damaged in any way, the underlying roofing materials are exposed to the elements.
In addition to weather, there are other factors that can cause a roof to deteriorate and require replacing, including poor design, incorrect installation, poor maintenance and pollution.
A badly designed roof can lead to sagging, loose tiles and splitting. A poor design can also cause water and sediment to accumulate on the roof, which can damage the structure. A roof that hasn’t been installed correctly can result in similar issues.
Roofs need to be properly maintained, such as keeping drains free of debris. Clogged drains will eventually lead to water buildup, which can damage both the roof and underlying structure.
Another potential source of roofing problems is flashing, a thin layer of waterproof material used to prevent water from seeping into a home. It is placed where the roof intersects with pipes, vents, chimneys and skylights. When flashing isn’t properly installed, fastened or adhered, water can leak through the roof and into the building, damaging drywall.
Spring is a good time to inspect a roof. However, a damaged roof can be replaced at any time, even when it is raining. A specialist in roof shingle installation should inspect your home and roof at least once a year. Identifying and fixing roof problems quickly can minimize the cost of repairs and prevent more serious structural issues from occurring.

The Pine Trees of Washington State

by Nancy Penrose
Pine trees are members of the Pinaceae family and Pinus genus. Over 100 different species of pine trees can be found throughout North America, Central America, South America and Canada, as well as Europe, the Mediterranean and Asia.
In the state of Washington, native pine trees include the Western White pine (Pinus monticola), Whitebark Pine (Pinus albicaulis), Ponderosa Pine (Pinus ponderosa) and the Lodgepole Pine (Pinus contorta).
The Western White Pine grows up to 160 feet and has pale brown, soft, finely grained wood. The tree’s blue green needles grow in clusters of five up to four inches long. These big trees have a long and slender cone that can grow up to 15 inches in length.. The tree, which is found at elevations from seal level to 7,000 feet, prefers moist, rich soil.
Whitebark Pine, also referred to as the Scrub Pine, Creeping Pine and Pitch Pine, is found in high elevations and can grow to almost 90 feet in height. The tree’s needles appear in clusters of five, and it’s cone ranges in size from approximately 2.5 inches to over 4.5 inches long. The Whitebark Pine can have a shrub-like appearance. Its shape can also be impacted by the wind.
The Ponderosa Pine, also known as the western yellow pine, yellow pine, bull pine and blackjack pine, has soft fine-grained dark brown to reddish-brown wood. The Ponderosa can reach heights of over 200 feet. Its dark yellow-green needles grow in clusters up to 11 inches long and its cones grow up to 6 inches long. Ponderosa pines can be found in many large gardens and parks.
Lodgepole Pines inhabit mountain regions and coastal regions. The Lodgepole can grow as either a shrub or tree. Various subspecies are used in landscaping and gardens. The tree requires full sunlight for growth and does best in moist, well-drained sandy soils. Its needles grow in clusters up to 3 inches in length.
Non-native pines that do well in this region include the Pinus Flexilis “Cesarini Blue” and the Vanderwolf Pine. They are used in landscaping, gardening and as privacy trees.
The Cesarini Blue requires full sun and can be kept small and dense with regular pruning. Asymmetrical in appearance, it can grow up to 14 feet in height with a 7 foot spread.
The Vanderwolf Pine, known for its pyramid shape and soft blue-green needles that appear to glow in the sun, grows up to 30 feet in height with a 15 foot spread. The Vanderwolf does well in full sun but can also tolerate partial shade.
If you are considering buying evergreen trees for privacy screening, a pine such as a Pinus Flexilis “Cesarini Blue” or Vanderwolf Pine might be a good choice. Before choosing a tree, get advice from a big trees expert on the best trees to transplant for your location and soil.
Do you need to remove a pine tree from your property? A big trees specialist can explain your options, including having the tree “rescued” for free.

A Writer’s Break

By Susan Malone
We all need them. But odd advice, no? When the prescription is usually write, write, write. Read, read, study, learn. Write, write, write.
And nothing is more important than the above, no? But once you’ve finally finished that novel or book-length non-fiction, and hopefully have sent it off to that developmental editor, taking a break from writing follows next.
Working with a true editor takes time. And the very best thing you can do at this point is to forget entirely about that work, and inhale long and deep. And not a drive-around-the-lake kinda breath, or a quick trip to Starbucks. Nope, now’s the time for an extended one; a place for your mind to cool a bit from the frenzy and let the chaotic miasma unravel and come back to rest.
Otherwise—and I promise you this—you’ll maim the baby on the page. This is where writers so often tell me they want to revise the manuscript one more time even though they’re unable to process the words and find themselves doing some version of paragraph one above. But they just can’t let go, can’t back away, are afraid everything is not exactly right and if that’s the case, the writing police will find and cite them for some awful unforgivable infraction. Yep, the root of all this is fear, and fear such as this does not accomplish one good thing.
Writers freak at this extended break! Eight entire weeks? Of not working? And I know I have just sprouted horns in their images of me. But, in a word, yes. Once you’ve devolved to circling your brain with words you don’t remember knowing, that break is mandatory.
I always take this time to just read. You know—all those books and stories you’ve been meaning to get to but haven’t had the time? The perfect antidote for not writing is reading great books. Of course, in my world, that’s pretty much the perfect antidote for everything up to and including a nuclear holocaust, but that’s another story!
Or see all those friends/family who’ve been wondering if you still exist or have literally become a vampire since you’re never seen in daylight and your skin’s turned ghostly pale. You know—those folks you ostensibly love and who’re now doubting that fact.
In other words, go play. Take a cooking class. Hike Mt. Everest (okay, you’ve ostensibly just done that, so maybe scale back to the Appalachian Trail) Let your creative psyche decompress and heal and remember what joy is. Partake of life and all its abundance again, and feel the gratitude that comes with that. Which is exactly how you dispel the guilt piled on by the demons of writing who crucify you for not working. Being grateful shuts them smooth up.
Because when the time comes to dig back into rewrite and revision, when the novel editor sends back your manuscript dripping in red blood, with a critique that reads like a mini-book, you’re going to need your resources. Being fresh, feeling strong, champing again at the bit to dive back into book development will serve you in more ways than I can count.
And the funniest result of your extended time off? When you get back to it, your subconscious creative mind has actually been working all that time, and what bubbles up from there is better, stronger, more wonderful and delightful than you ever thought you could write. Now, that’s something be thankful for.

Ban The Butts For Beautiful Results

by Dr. Darshan Shah, MD, FACS
The number-one reason for undergoing cosmetic surgery is to enhance appearance and boost self-esteem. That being said, one would think patients would follow their doctor’s orders…especially if non-compliance could negatively impact their post-surgery results.
However, when it comes to smoking and surgery, this is often not the case: Every year a number of patients ignore their surgeon’s warnings and continue to smoke both prior to and following cosmetic procedures. The result is that too many have cautionary tales to tell.

What’s the Danger?

To convince you of the necessity of quitting smoking, it is helpful that you understand how exactly smoking interferes with surgery and surgical results. In general, smoking is dangerous, in terms of plastic surgery, in two ways: First of all, nicotine causes the tiny blood vessels in the skin to clamp down or constrict (termed “vasoconstriction”), which reduces blood supply to the skin. Secondly, the carbon monoxide replaces nutrient-rich oxygen in the blood; these two impediments work together to limit the amount of oxygen that makes its way to the site of the incision…it is oxygen that serves to nourish a wound, causing it to heal properly.
Smoking in the weeks before or after surgery increases the probability of skin and/or organ complications including (but not limited to) the following:
- Impaired and/or delayed wound healing
- Greater risk of infection
- Greater risk of pulmonary (lung) problems
- More extensive and longer-lasting bruising
- Hypertrophic or keloid (thick, fibrous tissue) scarring
- Death or breakdown of skin or other tissue
Another negative is that, while smoking would affect any surgical procedure, it is even more of a detriment to cosmetic surgeries. The reason for this is that, even though the skin is the largest organ in the body, it has the tiniest blood vessels. After cosmetic procedures, it is the skin that needs to heal, and this is impacted by how much oxygen can reach it through these already miniscule vessels. Obviously, if the incision can’t heal properly, the ultimate aesthetic result of the surgery will be less than favorable. In other words, you’re willingly sacrificing the enhanced appearance that was the goal of the surgery in the first place.
Finally, the repercussions of smoking are not limited to an unsightly appearance…and you don’t even have to be a smoker yourself to be at risk. The actual surgery is more dangerous if you have been exposed, even secondhand, to nicotine and carbon monoxide, because you are then coming into the procedure with constricted blood vessels and lower oxygen levels. This sets you up for an increased chance of complications from the anesthesia, in addition to decreased blood supply to the vital organs. Because of this, I recommend that patients should not only quit smoking prior to undergoing plastic surgery, but they should limit exposure to secondhand smoke whenever possible.

Playing It Safe for Superior Results

So how far in advance do you need to ban the butts? While some less prudent plastic surgeons advise quitting for only two weeks before and after procedures, I am among the most cautious, insisting that patients quit smoking for at least one month prior and at least three months following all procedures.
I’m extremely empathetic to the difficulty involved in giving up cigarettes; however, I’m simply not willing to jeopardize a patient’s safety by performing a surgery under anything but optimal conditions. The most important thing is that you do quit prior to and following your cosmetic procedure(s).
For smoking and plastic surgery, the long and short of the situation is this: If you are undergoing cosmetic surgery in an effort to enhance your appearance, be aware that smoking is in direct opposition to achieving this goal. Not only are you sacrificing the best possible aesthetic result, but you could actually end up looking worse than before your procedure due to the excessive bruising and scarring that may result from improper healing. Furthermore, in successfully quitting for good, you will not only look your best post surgery, but you will have made a priceless move toward protecting your health and improving your overall quality of life.

Different Types Of Foundations Outlined For Homeowners

Understanding Types Of Foundations Important According To Construction Company

LOS ANGELES, CA: Julian Construction, (http://www.julianconstruction.com), a foundation construction and foundation repair company operating in the Los Angeles area, recently issued a general announcement to homeowners about the importance of knowing the type of foundation a home is built on. Knowledge of this increases the homeowner's understanding and recognition of potential foundation problems affecting the safety of a home.
According to Shawn Kyles, partner and safety specialist at Julian Construction: “When a foundation isn’t built properly or the soil that the foundation is constructed on expands and contracts, it can cause damage such as slopping floors, bowed walls, windows and doors that don’t open or close properly, cracks and other problems that can weaken the structure of your home. Inspections should be conducted on a regular basis by a home foundation specialist to determine if there are any issues that need resolving. Some degree of foundation settlement will occur even under ideal weather and property conditions, especially if it is an older home. Detecting and repairing even minor cracks and damage from foundation settlement is extremely important, and can prevent more serious problems that will require extensive and costly repairs.”
The types of foundations described in the article include:
* Crawl Space: Crawl space foundations, also called a raised foundation, are more common in the central parts of the country. It is a foundation that is built above the ground with approximately two feet of space for a person to crawl underneath.
* Basement: A basement has more room between the foundation and floor than a crawl space, usually enough for a person to stand up in. Basements are prevalent in cold areas, because the foundation needs to be constructed below the frost line, which is the depth that frost is able to penetrate the ground.
* Slab: Slab foundations are built using concrete, which is poured directly onto the ground. It is a single, solid piece of concrete and one of the most cost-effective and efficient types of foundations.
Julian De La Torre, founder and owner of Julian Construction, stated: “The more you know about the conditions of your foundation, the more you can recognize a problem with it before it becomes serious. This depends on your knowledge to recognize it and on a competent foundation contractor who is an inspection expert; they can correctly determine the condition of the foundation and determine any needed repairs.”
Julian Construction owns its own company and is built on a “no middlemen” model – no salesmen, no subcontractors. Julian Construction Explains Methods of Repairing Foundation Cracks

Construction Company Sets Out Steps To Repair A Cracked Foundation

LOS ANGELES, CA: Julian Construction, (http://www.julianconstruction.com), a general construction and foundation repair company in Southern California, recently issued a full explanation of how home foundation repair is accomplished for foundation cracks. The company is issuing this broadly to homeowners to raise awareness of the importance of handling foundation crack issues.
The three main methods of foundation repair for foundation cracks are epoxy injections, strapping and underpinning. Epoxy injections are known for their toughness, excellent adhesion, low shrinkage and resistance. Strapping is the process of installing carbon-fiber Kevlar straps which have considerable strength and are easy to work with. Underpinning can be done in addition to the above, with the purpose increasing the depth or width of the foundation. The company recommended consulting a professional foundation expert to determine what kind of foundation crack you are facing and what the appropriate method is to handle the problem.
The full text of the article by Julian Construction partner Shawn Kyles can be seen here: http://julianconstruction.typepad.com/julian-construction-blog/2012/12/how-to-repair-foundation-cracks.html
Julian De La Torre, founder and owner of the company, stated: “You need to know what you are looking at when you see the indications of foundation cracks. Something can be done to fix them, but if you don't have the information then you don't know what to do. So get professional help to find out exactly what the problem is, and you'll have peace of mind because you'll know your home is safe. And fixing foundation cracks is not a DIY type of job.”

Healthy Eating Prevents Tooth Decay

By Michael Vold, D.D.S., P.C.
Did you know that a healthy diet can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease? According to the American Dental Association (ADA), what you eat and drink can determine how often cavities occur and how they progress.
It is generally believed that a balanced, healthy diet consists of:
Fruits and vegetables
Grains
Dairy
Protein
The United States Department of Agriculture’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) recommends eating lean proteins and low-fat or fat-free dairy products. The CNPP further suggests that half the grains you eat should be whole grains, and that fruits and vegetables should cover half your plate at meal time. CNPP dietary advices are based on scientific research with the goal of improving the health and well-being of Americans.
Fruits and vegetables have a high concentration of water and fiber. They help stimulate the production of saliva, which washes away harmful acids and food particles in the mouth. Firm and crunchy fruits and vegetables are especially beneficial due to their high water content. Fruits and vegetables also contain vitamin C and vitamin A. Vitamin C helps with wound healing and maintaining healthy gums. Vitamin A is an important nutrient in building tooth enamel.
Foods rich in calcium, phosphorous and other nutrients are good for tooth and gum health as well. Calcium and phosphorus in particular help protect and rebuild tooth enamel. It is believed that both nutrients replace the minerals on tooth enamel that are naturally removed by acids.
Calcium is found in cheese, milk, yogurt, leafy greens, seaweeds like kelp, beans, figs and nuts such as almonds, hazelnuts, sesame and pistachios. In addition to supporting good oral health, calcium also builds strong bones, regulates muscle contraction, plays a role in blood coagulation, and helps with communication between the brain and other parts of the body.
Phosphorus comes from protein-rich foods such as meat, poultry, fish and eggs, along with bran, pumpkin, squash, watermelon seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, toasted wheat germ, Brazil and pine nuts. It works in conjunction with calcium to build and maintain healthy bones as well as teeth, and helps the body absorb vitamin B.
Other food related-factors that an influence can influence oral health include:
Whether the food is a liquid, solid, sticky or slow to dissolve
How often sugary and acidic foods and beverages are consumed
The combination of foods eaten
The order in which foods are eaten
Limiting the sugar in your diet plays a key role in preventing tooth decay and maintaining good oral health. Bacteria in the mouth feed off of the sugars contained in food, and release acids that are harmful to your teeth. Sweets and snack foods not only contain large amounts of sugar, they have virtually no nutritional value. This includes sugar-laden drinks like soda, lemonade, and sweetened coffee or tea. Sipping heavily sugared products results in a sugar bath over the teeth that can result in tooth decay.
The potential for cavities, gum disease and tooth loss can also be increased due to medical conditions such as acid reflux and eating disorders.
Maintaining a balanced diet is not only necessary for your overall health, it’s one of the easiest ways to prevent cavities, gum disease and avoid the cost of cosmetic dentistry and dental oral surgery.

Northbrook Court Dental Now Offers Porcelain Veneers

Northbrook, Illinois – Northbrook Court Dental Associates (http://www.northbrookcourtdental.com) announced that it now offers porcelain veneers to improve the appearance of teeth.
“Our goal with cosmetic dentistry is to enable patients to have the smile they’ve always wanted,” says Dr. Michael Vold, D.D.S. “Porcelain veneers are one of the easiest ways for patients to correct teeth with poor color or shape.”
Cosmetic dentistry is a specialized area of dental care that focuses on improving the appearance of a person’s teeth, gums and bite. Over the years, porcelain veneers has become one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures, both at the Northbrook dental clinic and in genral.
A porcelain veneer is a custom-made thin layer of material that is generally bonded to the tooth with resin cement. Porcelain veneers can be used to correct teeth that are chipped, broken, discolored and worn down, as well as uneven or irregularly shaped. Veneers are also used to cover large spaces between teeth, and teeth that have not responded well to tooth whitening or bleaching.
Veneers, which can last from 10 to 30 years, can be placed on one or more teeth. The procedure involves an initial consultation that includes an examination, evaluation and the development of a treatment plan. In some cases, x-rays may also be taken. The tooth is prepared for the veneer by removing a tiny amount of enamel from the tooth’s surface. An impression of the tooth is then taken and sent to a laboratory where the veneer is created.
Veneers are adhered to teeth using a light sensitive resin, which is placed between the veneer and the tooth. A special curing light is then used to harden the resin.
“It’s almost impossible to tell the different between veneers and regular teeth,” says Dr. Vold. “They are also very easy to maintain.”

Tree Nursery Puts 18-20’ Trees Into Local Golf Course

Tree Transplanting Company Helps Local Community With Tree Installation

SEATTLE, WA: Big Trees Inc., (http://bigtreesupply.com/), a tree transplanting company and tree nursery servicing the greater Seattle area, recently assisted a local golf course with the installation of several large trees installed in the landscape. The job was done in co-ordination with a local contractor for the benefit of the golf course. The company expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the installation and will be doing further projects in the community.
The Big Trees Inc. installations team went to Wenatchee, WA (100 miles east of Seattle) to plant 10 large trees (a type of Cypress tree) as part of a screening project on the golf course. The large load of trees were trucked over the pass by another local contractor, who works for the golf course on a regular basis. Between the two companies, utilizing tractors from the local area, the installation was completed over a two day period. The installation was a success, and Big Trees Inc. predicts the trees will be able to thrive in their new environment.
Nancy Penrose, owner of Big Trees Inc., stated “It was very much a concerted effort. We worked with the local community to pull this one off, and the other contractor that we worked with was instrumental in achieving the overall result. Our team even stayed the night in Wenatchee to finish the job on the second day. So it was very much a group effort. We'd be happy to work with them again.”
Nancy Penrose is the owner of Big Trees Inc. (http://www.bigtreesupply.com), located in Snohomish, WA. The company is one of the largest tree nurseries in the Seattle area with over 120,000 trees available in over 300 varieties. Beautologie CEO Improves Patient Care Even Further

Dr. Shah Trains Patient Coordinators During Educational Weekend Retreat

Bakersfield, CA – Dr. Darshan Shah, the CEO of Beautologie Medical Group, Inc. (http://www.beautologie.com), recently took his Patient Care Coordinators for an educational weekend retreat to perfect even further the friendly service and professional care his center is so well known for.

Dr. Shah educated the staff on the Beautologie standard of total customer satisfaction and making patients happy, and taught them how they can make every patient experience a pleasant and memorable one. Building personal relationships with patients was stressed as both a great benefit and a truly rewarding experience.

“Although we routinely receive rave patient reviews about the customer care in each of our three practices in Malibu, Bakersfield, and Fresno, this is something we will always work to maintain and improve,” says Dr. Shah. “Given expert medical skill and a professional staff, which we have, the next most important factor is the training of that staff into all the ins and outs of patient care.”

Offering patients choices was a point he went into great detail about in the weekend training sessions. He described how a patient could inquire about a plastic surgery procedure who might actually be a much better candidate for a less invasive procedure, such as laser skin resurfacing, dermal fillers and wrinkle relaxers, or varicose vein laser treatment. The staff were excited to learn how to offer patients choices that will fit within their budget and still provide great results.

“It's important that the patient be able to easily talk with their Care Coordinator,” says Dr. Shah. “Knowing their Coordinator has their best interests in mind, the patient will open up, and this allows our staff to learn the proper details to make the best recommendations for a doctor or a procedure.”

The patient reviews show that Dr. Shah knows how to make patients feel at home. One patient recently wrote, “Not only is Dr. Darshan Shah AMAZING, but so is his entire staff, from the ladies who answered every phone call every time I called, to the registered nurse who had to answer my endless questions.” Another wrote, “The staff was very welcoming and made me feel very comfortable. The nurses and Doctor were excellent. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.”

More patient reviews can be found at https://www.beautologie.com/about/patient-reviews. Dr. Darshan Shah, MD, FACS, is one of the industry’s most widely respected plastic and reconstructive surgeons. With offices in Bakersfield, Fresno and Malibu, California, he specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. His credentials include Board Certification by the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and specialized training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the prestigious Mayo Clinic. Dr. Shah has been voted Best in Bakersfield for the last 9 years in a row and has been featured on television shows including “Dr. Phil Show,” “Cutting Edge MDs 3,” “Extreme Makeover,” and “The Wellness Hour,” as well as in numerous magazine and newspaper articles.

Mold Remedy Procedure Streamlined By Building Cleaning Company

Building Cleaning Services—a Five-Star Company for Removing Black and Other Mold Remediation

LOS ANGELES, CA: Building Cleaning Services, (http://buildingcleaningservices.net/), a Los Angeles mold removal and construction cleaning business, has refined and implemented a streamlined mold removal process that effectively removes mold without leaving behind harmful chemicals, the company announced this week. Their mold remediation team has almost 15 years of experience in this specialized field.
Garrison Clarke, BCS Operations Manager, oversees the Building Cleaning Services (BCS) mold removal team. According to Mr. Clarke, BCS never uses harmful chemicals or biocide, which is unhealthy for the client. Their process includes identifying the affected areas of contamination and fully removing the mold to prevent further human exposure to it.
The standard procedure is to get containment constructed, with cabinets and other such appliances sealed off so that contamination does not spread to other areas of the home or building. A special air filtration system is set up to allow for an air flow for the containment to work effectively. Where necessary, they use abrasive air blasting under negative air pressure, then the area is fully cleaned with high powered vacuums. Finally, an independent air quality mold testing company inspects the area to conduct air testing to confirm the mold has been removed.
BCS services the Greater Los Angeles area, is regularly reviewed on Yelp (http://www.yelp.com/biz/building-cleaning-services-glendale) as a five-star professional and helpful company. It works with residential landlords and owners to assist them to quickly address toxic mold.
Garrison Clarke stated: “Throughout the process our first concern is to prevent anyone in the structure, including residents or employees and the mold remedial team from being exposed to the mold. You can’t just bomb the area with chemicals and not expect repercussions. That’s just adding one chemical to an already toxic situation. That’s why BCS only used non-toxic remediation.
The company spends time to really explain to potential clients what the remediation process entails, taking the worry out of the situation and ensures that they understand they need to get the source of the water intrusion that has caused the mold also gets corrected so that it doesn’t reoccur.
BCS also provides water damage handling and construction cleaning. Established in 1997, they have more than a decade of experience as a company with fast service, high professionalism and work ethic. BCS is certified by the Institute of Inspection and Cleaning and Restoration and Environmental Testing & Technology. Homeowners Can Transplant Privacy Tree Screen In Their Home Yard

SEATTLE, WA: Big Trees Inc., (http://bigtreesupply.com/), a tree transplanting company and tree nursery in the Seattle area, recently announced that homeowners can have privacy screening trees transplanted to their yard. Big Trees Inc. can transplant privacy trees from one site to a new one, as well as transplanting a tree from their nursery in Snohomish, WA, into the yard. The company also offers landscape consultation to find the right tree for a particular yard and determine what will be needed for that tree to grow.
The company has many years of experience in installation of privacy screen trees. An expert in tree transplanting and placement from the company first works with the homeowner to find out how much space the tree has to grow, and other important factors. Then the right tree or trees are found to suit the needs of the homeowner and ensure optimum growth and privacy.
The company has a number of trees it recommends for privacy screens. Thuja Occidentalis (Emerald Greens) are one of the most popular, dependable and low maintenance screening trees in the local area, being a dense evergreen that maintains its deep green color all year round. Excelsa Cedars are known to maintain their density and symmetrical form without reaching such enormous sizes. The Emerald Giant Cedar has a superb green color year round, tipped with bronze in the Winter. It is a hybrid of the Emerald Green and Excelsa Cedar, so although it still grows quickly up to 30-40’, it will only get 8-10’ wide. This is often a good compromise for homeowners who want something fast growing, but don’t have a lot of space in their yard. Leyland Cypress, on the other hand, can grow up to three to four feet a year, filling in very quickly, and require little maintenance as long as ample room is left for their full mature size.
Nancy Penrose, owner of Big Trees Inc., stated: “Many folks want to have a privacy screen because of the added comfort of being able to go into your own yard and have peace and quiet. Sometimes other trees are obtrusive or don’t grow as well as hedge trees do for screening purposes. It’s important to find the tree that’s right for your yard.”
Nancy Penrose is the owner of Big Trees Inc. (http://www.bigtreesupply.com), located in Snohomish, WA, in the Seattle area. The company is one of the largest tree nurseries in the Seattle area with over 120,000 trees available in over 300 varieties. They not only can deliver young trees but also mature trees in a wide range of sizes. Some types of trees available include spring flowering, deciduous, evergreen, and privacy trees. Creating a Natural Screen with an Excelsa Cedar

by Nancy Penrose
One of the best trees to plant for privacy is the coniferous Excelsa Cedar (Thuja plicata Excelsa). The Excelsa is the smaller of two species of Thuja plicata. It is also known as the Excelsa Western red cedar. The word “Thuja” comes from Medieval Latin and means cedar (thuia). The Greek word ‘plicata’ means folded in plates, which is in reference to the tree’s leaves. Thuja plicata trees are also referred to as Pacific red cedar.
Thuja plicata trees are members of the genus Thuja L and the cypress family Cupressacaeae. The four other members of the Thuja L genus are Thuja koralensis, Thuja occidentalis, Thuja standishii and Thuja sutchuenensis. However, Thjua plicata is the only member of the Thuja L genus that is native to the Pacific Northwest. They can live a considerable length of time and are very resistant to decay and urban pollution.
An official symbol of British Columbia, the Thuja plicata has a long history of use amongst indigenous people. The tree’s wood, which can be split without cutting, was crafted into canoes, instruments, ceremonial artifacts, totem poles, housing and clothing. Other parts of the tree were used for clothing, making rope and baskets.
Despite its name, the Excelsa cedar is not a traditional cedar. Real cedars are members of the genus Cedrus and the Pinaceae plant family. They can grow over 180 feet tall, and are known for their scented wood, which is a natural moth repellent, and cracked bark. The Cedar’s needle leaves, which are green all year round, are arranged in spiral-like clusters. The tree’s barrel shaped seed cones can grow as long as 12 centimeters. They are a native tree of the Himalayas and Mediterranean. In addition to North America, they are also cultivated in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
The Excelsa Cedar can be found from Alaska to California. It is a bushy fast growing tree with a pyramid shape that matures to approximately 30 feet in height and 15-20 feet in width. The tree grows in forests (including forested swamps) and on the sides of mountains. The leaves of the Excelsa Cedar are like scales, and form flat sprays. The cones are much smaller than a regular cedar, growing approximately 10-18 millimeters long. The tree has a very pleasant smell that some people say is reminiscent of crushed pineapple.
The Excelsa Cedar is frequently planted when a windbreaker, sound barrier or two-story screen is needed. Or, when a homeowner wants an “instant privacy screen.” They can grow 2-3’ in a year, even in the first year they’ve been planted! They remain green all year long, easily adapt to changing weather conditions, and grow in either full sun or partial shade. An Excelsa can also withstand droughts. When used for screening, the Excelsa can be left to grow naturally, or shaped with pruning.
If you have an area of your home or building that you would like to screen, have your site evaluated by a big tree expert. While one or more Excelsa Cedars may be the best choice for your particular project, a knowledgeable professional can discuss all of your options. There are many factors to take into consideration when creating a natural screen. Consulting someone with extensive big tree experience will ensure you make the best decision possible regarding your property.

Aero & Marine Tax Professionals Helps Window Company Receive Tax Exemption on Aircraft Purchase

Window Manufacturing Company Receives Tax Exemption on Purchase of Piper Mirage Airplane

SACRAMENTO, CA: Aero & Marine Tax Professionals, (http://www.aeromarinetaxpros.com/) an aircraft tax specialist firm in northern California, recently assisted a southern California glass and window manufacturing company in obtaining a tax exemption on the purchase of a Piper Mirage aircraft.
An executive from the company stated: “We're a glass and mirror fabrication company. We provide glass to local glass shops and contractors across the United States. The purchase of the aircraft provided a great convenience. We're a manufacturing company with several plants. If we want to visit several locations in one day, flying commercial would be very inconvenient and sometimes impossible. If we flew commercial, we would have to fly in and then drive for two hours to get to some of the locations. This way, we're always able to fly in and land within twenty or thirty minutes of the plant. It was imperative to have Aero & Marine Tax Professionals on board. They've done this before and they walked us through it. They were thorough and on top of it. They were always good about following up and keeping on top of things with us. There was always a lot going on, but we got it done. So I would recommend them to others.”
Tom Alston, CEO of Aero & Marine Tax Professionals, stated: “Anyone who works with tax agencies knows that the management of the case, the preparation for it, records, etc., all has to be precise. We take this part of the business seriously, and because we know the procedures of California aircraft sales and use tax so thoroughly, it allows for the running of the entire case to be very smooth. If our assessment at the onset of the case is that a legal sales and use tax exemption is possible, then we see to it that we deliver just that.”
Aero & Marine Tax Professionals shows purchasers how to avoid aircraft tax and vessel tax in California and to make certain the full value of their next aircraft, vehicle or vessel goes into their pocket--not the government's. They have successfully filed hundreds of tax returns with the California State Board of Equalization. Mr. Alston has also published many articles on sales and use tax. Aero & Marine Tax Professionals Help Consulting Company Get Tax Exemption on Plane

Building Consulting Business Obtains Tax Exemption On Purchase of Columbia Aircraft

SACRAMENTO, CA: Aero & Marine Tax Professionals, (http://www.aeromarinetaxpros.com/), an aircraft and marine tax specialist company in northern California, recently assisted a building consulting company receive a tax exemption on the purchase of a Columbia aircraft.
An executive from the company stated: “We’re in a building consulting business and we do work all along the west coast. We’ve now opened up shop and are doing business in Utah and Idaho also. Opening up shop in Utah and Idaho with very remote locations precipitated the aircraft purchase. It is simply much easier to get to places like Cedar City or St George, Utah directly than it is to take a commercial flight to Las Vegas and drive two hours to get to such places. We started this process well over a year ago. We were in a pre-purchase state with two or three partners. One of the dealers we were working with recommended Aero & Marine Tax Professionals."
“It seemed fairly simple at that point in time. I think they pre-evaluated whether we could get the exemption or not, and when I described to them what our mission was for the airplane, they felt confident that we could get the exemption. The experience was pretty seamless. I very rarely actually talked to them, but they sent me information whenever I needed and I sent the information along on time. It just seemed seamless, and it made my job easier. I would recommend them to others, as a matter of fact we were originally going to do this with partners, though we did this purchase by ourselves. But the partners know about Aero & Marine Tax Professionals and I’m sure that they’ll be one of their first calls if they do decide to go forward.”
Aero & Marine Tax Professionals CEO, Tom Alston, stated: “We’re very pleased the case went well. After we assess a case to see if a tax exemption is possible, if all looks affirmative, then the rest is pretty downhill. We stay up-to-date on all of the California aircraft tax codes and regulations so we know with each client how to avoid sales and use tax legally on the purchase of an aircraft.”
