American Dental Excellence Offers Fastbraces

Westminster, CO Dentist Offers Revolutionary New Orthodontic Technology

Westminster, CO - Dr. Kenneth Polke, of American Dental Excellence in Westminster (http://americandentalexcellence.com), CO is now offering Fastbraces services to his patients in the Denver area. Fastbraces is a revolutionary braces and tooth straightening technology that produces final results in about 3-12 months versus up to two years (or more) for traditional braces. Fastbraces has significantly changed the field of orthodontics over the last twenty years.

American Dental Excellence is one of the few dental practices in the Denver area offering Fastbraces technology.

Dr. Polke stated “We are proud to now offer Fastbraces, which we feel is an excellent orthodontic option for both adults & children. Fastbraces work differently than traditional braces. Ordinarily, orthodontic devices first move tooth roots & then crowns in a long, multi-step process that can take up to two years. The unique design of Fastbraces enables us to move those roots & crowns at the same time, drastically reducing treatment time from as long as two years, to 3-12 months. It’s a lot faster, causes less discomfort for the patient, and produces excellent results.”

BigTreeSupply.com: Deciduous and Coniferous Trees

by Nancy Penrose

Trees not only add beauty to the environment, they can be used in a landscape to increase privacy and shade yards and homes. They also help filter the air, and provide wildlife with food and shelter.

There are two main categories of trees, deciduous and coniferous.

Deciduous trees, also called broadleaf trees, have leaves that fall off at some point during the year. In fact, the word deciduous comes from Latin “deciduous” which means “to fall off.” In regions where there is a winter, the tree’s leaves will drop in autumn and grow back in the spring. In tropical zones, a deciduous tree will lose its leaves during the dry season and re-grow them during wetter periods. By losing its leaves (going dormant) the tree can more easily survive changes in the climate.

A deciduous tree’s leaves are large and wide, which enable them to catch a significant amount of light. The tree typically spreads out as it grows. The shape of most deciduous trees is round compared to a coniferous tree. The size of deciduous trees varies according to the type, and can range from a few feet to over 100 feet. Examples of deciduous trees include maple, oak, dogwood and hickory trees.

One of the most appealing characteristics of a deciduous tree is the change in leaf color before the leaves drop. The colors can range from yellow and orange to red and crimson. Some varieties of flowering trees, such as cherry trees and dogwoods, will also flower when they lose their leaves or re-start the leaf growing process. When a tree flowers without leaves, pollination is much easier.

Deciduous trees generally grow best in nutrient-rich soil. Sufficient water is also an important factor when it comes to maintaining their health and vitality. Most deciduous trees will also need to be pruned to keep them in good shape.

Coniferous trees (also known as evergreen trees) have leaves that remain on the tree all year long. The leaves are either needle-like or flat and scaled. The leaves only drop when they become old. The tree’s seeds grow in cones.

Coniferous trees also grow up instead of out, and generally have a triangular shape.

Types of coniferous trees include firs, spruces and pines, such as the red pine, white spruce, black spruce, Norway spruce, red spruce, Eastern white pine and Douglas fir.

Most coniferous trees are found in northern, colder regions.

The tree’s needles have a wax-like coating that prevents the loss of moisture during winter months. The sturdiness and shape of the tree, along with its supple branches, also enables snow to slide easily to the ground. Because the tree does not lose its leaves, it can quickly resume food production once winter has passed.

Similar to deciduous trees, coniferous trees can range in height from a few feet to over 100 feet high. They are great as privacy trees.

Many different species of deciduous and coniferous trees can grow in the Pacific Northwest.

Big Trees Installs New Trees on Border of Property

Issaquah Highlands Development Project Brings Need for Privacy Screen Trees

SEATTLE, WA: Big Trees Inc., (http://bigtreesupply.com/) a tree nursery and tree installation company in the Seattle area, recently assisted residents by installing new trees to act as a privacy screen on their property. The residents, a couple in the Issaquah Highlands, found themselves confronted with a new development being built right next to their property, a development project which would have meant much less trees and much less privacy. Big Trees Inc. was able to help the couple gain back the privacy screen by bringing in new trees.

The development project on the couple’s southeast property line was taking out the single house and heavily wooded area which had been there, and turning it into a lot with multiple houses. The couple knew the houses would come soon, and didn’t have time to wait to plant small trees which would eventually grow. The couple called Big Trees Inc. and decided on bringing in a number of 22’ Excelsa Cedars to go on the side of the property facing the new development. The trees are scheduled for installation shortly, in time for them to be planted before the new homes arrive.

Nancy Penrose, owner of Big Trees, stated, “Some of our customers come into the office in a state of shock after realizing their property’s aesthetic has been so drastically altered, and that it is all beyond their control. It’s one of the most satisfying things we do here at Big Trees; giving people solutions to their property’s privacy and value when things change so dramatically around them.”

Nancy Penrose is the owner of Big Trees Inc. (http://www.bigtreesupply.com), located in Snohomish, WA, in the Seattle area. The company is one of the largest tree nurseries in the Seattle area with over 120,000 trees available in over 300 varieties. They not only can deliver young trees but also mature trees in a wide range of sizes. Some types of trees available include spring flowering, deciduous, evergreen, and privacy trees. The company also does tree transplantation including large trees. Their blog can be seen at http://www.bigtreesupply.com/blog/

JulianConstruction.com: Types of Drywall

by Shawn Kyles

For the past 50 years drywall has been a common type of material used in the construction of homes to make interior walls and ceilings. It covers insulation, wiring and the structure’s frame. It is also used to create separations in buildings requiring fire-rated materials.

The reason for drywall’s extensive usage and popularity is its low cost, ease of installation and durability.

Drywall is also known as wallboard, plasterboard, gypsum board and Sheetrock (a brand name). It is made of gypsum (powdered rock) plaster that has been pressed between two sheets of extremely thick paper.

Gypsum is a soft, fine-grained white mineral. In addition to drywall, it is used as a fertilizer and for blackboard chalk. Gypsum can even be made into blocks similar to concrete blocks, and mortar. In Asian cultures, it is a source of dietary calcium

Standard drywall sheets are 4’ x 8’. You can also purchase drywall that is 10 and 12 feet long. The drywall used for ceilings is 5/8 inch thick and the drywall used for walls is typically 1/2 inch thick. You can also purchase drywall that is 3/8 inch thick.

In addition to size and thickness variations, drywall can also be square edged, taper-edged, moisture resistant, soundproof, fire-resistant and foil-backed. Deciding what type of drywall to use will depend on your project.

Water-resistant drywall (greenboard) is needed in areas where there is moisture, such as kitchens, bathrooms, or regions with a humid climate. In many cases, the greenboard will also need a waterproof membrane to prevent water penetration. Another option for areas exposed to water is cement board. A cement board is fiber reinforced cement. It does not have outward facing paper.
You can also buy drywall that is mold-resistant. Drywall that is mold resistant typically has paperless backing and a special coating to prevent mold.

Fire resistant drywall is for walls or ceilings that require a fire-rating beyond 20 minutes. To create this type of drywall, strands of fibers are added to the gypsum. This increases the ability of the drywall to withstand fire for a longer period of time.

If you are planning to install drywall in high traffic commercial areas, you may want to consider impact resistant drywall. This type of drywall is made by adding fibers to the gypsum as well as increasing the thickness of the paper.

Soundproof drywall (quiet rock) has viscoelastic polymers added to the gypsum, The polymers convert sound energy to heat energy.

You can even purchase lead-lined drywall for drywall jobs in areas such as x-ray rooms. Lead-lined drywall is made by adding 1/16” layer of lead between the gypsum and paper backing. The lead blocks the x-rays from penetrating the wall.

If your drywall job involves the use of veneer plaster, you will need blue board, a type of drywall covered with a special coating. The coating makes it easier for the plaster to adhere to the drywall.
When it comes to installing drywall, hire a general or foundation contractor. A professional will know what type of drywall is needed for your project. You will also have peace of mind knowing that the drywall was properly installed and can pass a foundation inspection.

Foundation Problems Recognizable By Different Cracks

Different Foundation Cracks Indicate Several Different Structural Problems

LOS ANGELES, CA: Julian Construction, Inc., (http://julianconstruction.com/) a foundation construction and general contractor construction company in the Los Angeles area, just released an article detailing many different types of foundation cracks and what each one indicates. Different foundation cracks are caused by conditions in the soil and structure and each has a specific cause. Shawn Kyles, structural safety inspection expert, wrote the article to help homeowners recognize these potentially dangerous foundation problems.

Mr. Kyles states: “When cracks appear in walls, it is often a sign of foundation problems or damage. Many times the problem is caused by foundation shrinkage, soil expansion or settlement. Earthquakes can cause cracking as well. Where the crack is occurring, its size and shape can tell you a lot about the problem. Knowing how to ‘read’ them can help you determine the seriousness of the situation and what action to take.”

The full text of the article can be found here: http://julianconstruction.com/julianconstruction-com-different-types-of-foundation-cracks/

The company strongly recommends that homeowners quickly address any of these signs of foundation damage. A competent foundation inspection by a trained professional can locate the cause of the problem and indicate the appropriate foundation repair.

Julian De La Torre, founder of Julian Construction, stated: “It is a positive thing to know that with these different foundation problems, each has a different way to recognize it. When you know that, you can be more alert to the problem, and you are more knowledgeable when it occurs as to what is happening. You know when a problem is serious or not, because different cracks will tell you what kind of foundation problem you are looking at. And a trained foundation specialist will be able to spot the source of the problem right away so it can be completely handled.”

Efforts to Proof California Homes Against Earthquakes Ongoing

Earthquake Retrofitting a Continuing and Large Scale Process for Homes in California

LOS ANGELES, CA: Julian Construction, Inc., (http://julianconstruction.com/) a foundation repair and construction and earthquake retrofitting specialist company in California, is joining with many different organizations and the Los Angeles Mayor in a concerted effort to bring California’s homes up to code and ready for the next big earthquake. The earthquake preparedness process ranges from small repairs of homes which need more modern earthquake reinforcement, to large repairs of office buildings which may be in great danger of collapse in the event of an earthquake.

The company urges all California homeowners and business owners to join in the process.
Shawn Kyles, Julian Construction’s building safety inspection expert, stated: “In California, considerable efforts are being made to ensure commercial and residential buildings are earthquake-proof. Even so, many structures are still not retrofitted. It’s important for anyone in California to know whether or not their home could withstand a large earthquake. Houses with no earthquake retrofitting can fall off the foundation or collapse when the ground starts to shake. Sometimes, damage can be severe enough to require the home be torn down.”

One such person joining in the effort to strengthen California homes is Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti, who made the following statement in December last year: “The time for retrofit is now. Complacency risks lives. One thing we can’t afford to do is wait.” The mayor announced his intentions for a city-wide earthquake retrofitting program here:
http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-earthquake-safety-retrofit-20141208-story.html

Julian De La Torre, founder of Julian Construction, stated: “The need for earthquake retrofitting has been with us for some time. There are buildings which were built decades ago which are not up to current code, and sometimes we find modern buildings where the foundation was not done correctly. All of these need to be replaced. I’m very happy to see a large effort to handle all of California’s buildings. In a state like this, with how many earthquakes we get every year, we cannot let a home be at risk of collapse in an earthquake.”

BCS Supports CA Water Conservation & Advises Homeowners to be Watchful for Water Run-Off that could Cause Mold

LOS ANGELES, CA: Building Cleaning Services (BCS), (http://buildingcleaningservices.net/) a Los Angeles mold remediation specialist-company and construction cleaning business, has been helping CA home owners with tips to conserve water by preventing water run-off that can intrude into crawl spaces and also cause mold. The company is warning homeowners to be on the watch for water intrusion into the home, especially from watering gardens or leaking faucets—use preventive measures to ensure there’s no water run-off into the property’s crawl space and check for water leaks from different indoor sources. Mold in the crawl spaces underneath a home (or into the home itself) can be particularly hazardous.

On April 1st, California Governor Brown ordered that restrictions be imposed on the use of water to combat the drought emergency. Water restriction should decrease the amount of excess water runoff. In many cases where Building Cleaning Services has been called to address a mold infestation, the cause has been traced back to a water intrusion often caused by improper watering (or from improper drainage systems to combat rain). Sprinklers which water the outside walls of a home also keep the walls wet, and ultimately may cause water seepage into the crawl spaces below a home.

California homeowners are urged to check several things in addition to water conservation steps:
- Check your home’s sprinklers to see if they spray the walls or air vents of your home, and adjust them so they don’t.
- Check the sprinkler systems to ensure there is no water runoff. If there is, get the sprinklers adjusted.
- Find out if the runoff has gone anywhere near the building’s walls.
- Turn off all of the water in your home and check your water meter reading, then check it again in half an hour. This will indicate the quantity of water which is going somewhere it shouldn’t.

If any signs of water leaks are present, homeowners should take fast action to address it. Also if signs of mold are present, such as a musty odor indoors or any visible mold in the home, action must be taken to address the mold and address the source of the water leaks in the home. Failure to do so puts the building occupants at health risk from the mold infestation, as well as allowing structural damage from the water leaks. Take fast action to address it before it becomes a bigger problem.

Building Cleaning Services has many years of experience in handling Los Angeles mold infestations. One of their clients said: “These gentlemen helped me remediate mold at my house, and then dry out a huge water leak before mold could form at my wife's family's house--in the span of about a month. Their service was responsive, fast, professional, and courteous. They answered any question that I had, and the pricing was transparent and understandable. I really couldn't have been happier. They made the best out of two dicey situations.”
