Big Trees Inc. Helps Transplant Large Trees at a Private Seattle School

SNOHOMISH, WA: Big Trees Inc., (https://bigtreessupply.com/), a tree sales and transplant company, recently helped transplant a large number of Linden trees at a private school in the Seattle area.

The project will be accomplished over the winter break so as to not interfere with the daily school traffic. This transplanting effort will be made to create a much smoother process for the construction company for major renovations, and will keep the school in good standings with the city’s efforts to maintain the tree canopy of this neighborhood.

The private school has been planning a major renovation for some time. In moving the 25-foot tall Linden trees out of their current location, the renovation project will be able to work more efficiently, with a much better staging area for loading and unloading materials.

The trees will have 15,000-pound root balls, and with all the overhead obstructions and branching in the area, Big Trees will be hiring a unique forklift, called a Versa Lift, providing several options on handling weight. The large trees in question will be moved to the other side of the property and replanted. In addition, there are some smaller trees that will be removed and brought to Big Trees’ nursery for storage until the construction is completed.

Todd Holmes, Big Trees’ Operation Manager, stated “This is a fun example of what can be done with large landscape trees as an alternative to the chainsaw. These 20-year trees can continue providing their benefits to the community, and the construction project can be made more efficient. These kind of operations feel really good to be a part of.”

Nancy Penrose is the owner of Big Trees Inc., located in Snohomish, WA in the Seattle area. The company is one of the largest tree nurseries in the Seattle area with over 120,000 trees available in over 300 varieties. They not only deliver young trees, but also mature trees in a wide range of sizes. Some types of trees available include spring flowering, deciduous, evergreen, and privacy trees. The company also does tree transplanting including large trees. Their blog can be seen at https://bigtreessupply.com/blog/ or http://arboristblog.com/. They can be reached at 360-563-2700.

The Best Time To Get Tree Inspections and Pruning

By Nancy Penrose

If you’re not getting your trees inspected, you should start. It’s important to make sure your trees get inspected to ensure that they’re safe and healthy. The prime time to get your trees inspected and pruned is actually in the winter because:

There aren’t any leaves on the trees, making it easier to see the structure of the tree.

Trees suffer less shock from pruning due to them being dormant.

Pruning can be done without causing damage to nearby landscaping from heavy equipment.

What is pruning and should you do it?

Pruning is the cutting of dead or overgrown branches or stems, which can increase the fruitfulness and growth of the tree. To keep the tree healthy and safe, it’s important to get your trees pruned. See a branch that looks problematic? It should be pruned before it becomes unstable and causes property damage.

Although pruning seems like a pretty easy task, we highly suggest letting a professional do it. Pruning without proper knowledge and training can lead to accidents and cause long-term damage to the tree, causing it to get worse or die.

At Big Trees, we are properly trained to safely prune and inspect trees of all kinds and know exactly which type of pruning needs to be done to which type of tree. If your tree looks questionable in any way, let us come out an inspect it, call us at (360) 563-2700 today.

FineCraftContractors.com: Latest Trends in Home Remodeling

By Niko Papaheraklis

In the past, it was popular to buy a home, and then later move into a bigger home down the road. While some still do that, many people today are staying in their current home and remodeling it. As we dive into 2019, we thought it would be fun to share some of the latest trends in home remodeling. Enjoy!

1. Going for practicality and less showy

One of the biggest trends in home remodeling for 2019 is that homeowners are spending their remodeling money on more practical things and less showy things. One popular item lately has been taking a deck and turning it into a screened porch. Remodels like this not only serve a purpose, but they increase the value of your home.

2. Kitchen and bathrooms continue to be popular

We don’t think kitchen remodeling and bathroom remodels will ever not be something homeowners will do. Afterall, the Houzz and Home study concluded that the top three renovated rooms in the home are kitchens, guest bathrooms and master bathrooms. These rooms add the most value to your home and are also used on a daily basis, giving them higher importance when it comes to remodeling.

3. Home automation

With the increase of smart home products, homeowners are looking at adding more tech-forward security systems, smart thermostats, lights, and devices such as Google Home. While this does give a more modern feel to the home, it can also make daily living more efficient.

At Finecraft Contractors, if you can imagine it, we can build it. If you have a home renovation idea or want to remodel sections of your home, call us at 301-330-9191 and let’s see what we can do for you.
