The implant itself is a titanium screw that is placed in the jaw bone. Another small piece called an abutment is screwed into the implant and then the final crown is attached to that. Dr. Simmons was awarded a Fellowship with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists in 1986 and a Diplomate degree in 1991.
