When Should You Get Your Trees Inspected?

By Nancy Penrose

Caring for your trees is an important part of maintaining your landscape.  Healthy trees add to your property value as well as add beauty.

In previous articles we have covered different aspects of how you can care for your trees in your yard, but how often should you get them inspected by a professional? Here are some guidelines to keep in mind to maintain the health of your trees.

  • Discolorations and any obvious signs of damage
  • Anytime there are extreme weather conditions. High wind, heavy snow, large amounts of rain, any flooding in your yard, are all examples.
  • If you are about to start any major renovation on your house or yard.  Making sure your contractor is aware of any branches or root systems that may be in within the construction zone.
  • Buying a new home. An inspection of the trees on a property that you are thinking about buying could influence your decision to buy.  Getting an inspection done prior to buying could disclose any problems with your trees so you are not left with them after you are living the in the home.

Routine inspections can also help maintain the safety of your yard.  Hazardous branches can fall can cause injury or damage to your home or your neighbors.  Getting routine inspections can identify potential problems and resolve them swiftly.

The above points are all things to keep in mind, but every property is different, and conditions vary.  Trees are living things that need regular maintenance to keep them looking their best and in good health.  If you have concerns or questions, you can reach out to your local tree specialists and schedule an inspection.
